History

The group was formed in 2003 by a group of residents  in Rycroft Court, one of four tower block’s on the estate, who were tired of living in a war zone with loud music; stranger’s sleeping on the landings and drug deals going on all around us.
We where having fires almost every week and kids running around he stairs day and night. So a meeting was called and held in one of the flats; when around twelve residents came. It was agreed that this could not go on,it was also agreed to get in touch with the estate caretaker at the time who promised to help us.
A committee if six residents was formed; Leeds West Homes contacted and Lee Wright met the committee to set them on the right road. A constitution was set up with the help of the EMO’s and with help of the PCSO’s we managed to get rid of the trouble makers.
Then officer’s were elected and they set to work.
After a while we approached West Homes and asked them if they could convert an old drying room into a community room for us to use. This they did and it proved to be the turning point as we were able to arrange social events.
Things have moved on since then and three of the committee moved from Rycroft Court to Rycroft Green, a sheltered housing scheme where we now hold many of our events.
We are an active group, as we run Bingo every week and many event’s throughout the year for those in the scheme and guest from other scheme’s and within the community,we also run a Christmas party at a local club each year, plus five or six coach trips out each summer. We have also just raised enough money to have a conservatory added to the sheltered block.
Of today’s committee four of them where  in the original six and we still have the same Chair and Secretary we started with, but thing.s have come along way in the year’s since then.
We still have space for more committee personal.
